Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
Jesus paid the price with His blood to break the power of sin in our lives. We are justified and made righteous through His sacrifice. Through Jesus we are a free people, no longer under the bondage of sin and all it’s “children” (sickness, poverty, destruction). With Jesus, we no longer have to obey a set of rules and regulations to be accepted by God, Jesus fulfilled (Matthew 5:17, 19:25-26) all the obligations and legal requirements for us, we are truly free.
Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
The law of Moses was good in that it showed a people who had forgotten who God was, how perfect He is and how far they were from His standards. Obeying the law was never possible for fallen man (James 2:10), the law was there to show man that he was powerless in his own strength to fulfill it and that he needed a savior (Jesus).
Sadly Christians who love God and who believe in His grace still do not understand how free they truly are in Jesus. Look at what Paul wrote:
1 Corinthians 10:23
All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.
Nothing is denied us! We are however reminded that actions have consequences and not everything we could do or partake of is good for us. Do you understand the enormity of this verse? God is trusting us as free men and woman, who are new creations in Jesus and no longer subject to sin and the deceit of the devil to make our choices not according to a list of rules but out of the transformed nature of our hearts!
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Let’s embrace our freedom, bought by the blood of Jesus and live free!
