Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Our souls (our mind, will, emotions & conscience) need to rest in Jesus if they are to be healthy. If we allow our souls to be weighed down with pressures, stress, anxiety, troubles and cares, they can’t rest. A soul that is not at rest is an unhealthy soul. When our souls are not at rest, then our bodies can’t truly rest which leads to burnout, exhaustion, depression and nervous breakdowns.
The Bible tells us that we prosper in proportion to the prosperity of our souls. If our souls are not in a state of health and wellness, then the rest of us will suffer too.
3 John 1:2
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
If we are consistently having problems in our finances, our health, our relationships etc, then we need to look at how our soul is doing.
Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; He who guards his soul will be far from them.
If we read Matthew 12:8, we see Jesus described as the Lord of the sabbath. In Hebrews 4 we are told to enter into His rest. Jesus is our sabbath rest, and no matter how much physical “down time” you have, if you are not resting in Jesus, you will not truly rest.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
Psalm 23 is a great description of what happens when we allow God to lead us into rest. He leads us beside still waters, a place of peace and calm. He restores our souls and we do not want, our financial, health, etc. needs are met.
Remember that outside of Jesus you can do nothing. You may have some success without Him but it will come with great pain and suffering.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.
Resting in Jesus, is not avoiding living a challenging and exciting life, instead it is not carrying the burdens of worry and anxiety, it’s not carrying the stress, because you know that Jesus is the one that empowers you to do all things. When you are in Jesus and He is in you, His blessings empower you to be successful without the pain of broken lives, relationships etc.
1 Peter 5:6-7
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
