When chaos and uncertainty strike, the automatic response of many is fear.
This is not new phenomenon, we see the same response from Jesus’ disciples.
Matthew 8:23 – 26 – And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he said unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm
Jesus rebuked his disciples saying: “Why are you afraid, you of little faith?”
In the original Greek text, the “little faith” literally means lacking confidence (in Christ).
Timothy points out that we are equipped with an overcoming Spirit of power and love, not a one of fear.
2 Timothy 1:7 – For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Fear is essentially negative faith. It is an expectation that the worst will happen. One could say that fear is the opposite of Biblical faith, which calls us to expect good things from a good God and His deliverance in times of trouble and need.
Hebrew 11:1 – Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Faith as used by the Hebrew writer is a moral conviction; being fully persuaded of and morally convinced of Christ’s salvation.
He continues to write, saying that –
Hebrew 11:6 – But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him
The smallest amount of faith is sufficient to move the mountains in our lives.
Matthew 17:20 – And Jesus said to them, Because of your unbelief. For truly I say to you, If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, Move from here to there. And it shall move. And nothing shall be impossible to you.
All we need to do is to speak our faith without a doubt.
Mark 5:36 – But hearing the word spoken, Jesus said to the synagogue ruler, Do not be afraid, only believe.
Mark 9:23 – Jesus said to him, If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.
If we can entrust our faith in what Christ has already accomplished on the cross and in his salvation which includes deliverance, protection, and health, we can tell the mountains which wants to cause chaos in our lives to pick themselves up and drop into the sea.
Psalm 91:4-11 – He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall trust. His truth shall be your shield, and buckler. You shall not fear the terror by night; nor because of the arrow that flies by day; nor for the plague that walks in darkness, of the destruction laying waste at noonday. A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes you shall look and see the reward of the wicked. Because You, O Jehovah, are My refuge; if You have made the Most High Your dwelling-place, no evil shall befall You, nor shall any plague come near Your dwelling. For He shall give His angels charge over You, to keep You in all Your ways.
